And Aprile added they will feature the same general arrangement as the line’s existing Vista class, but with “unique Italian styling.” Both will be operated by Carnival crew and feature the brand’s signature fun elements. The ship will also have Carnival's popular Piano Bar 88, coupled with the live shipboard musical performances the line is known for, along with a full list of Playlist Production shows that include "Broadway Beats", "Vintage Pop", and "Epic Rock". Other new bars and lounges include Frizzante (think prosecco and Italian beers); and Rococo, which offers frozen Italian drinks in an atmosphere Carnival calls "Baroque Goes Pop." As this bar does double-duty as a sort of Alchemy Bar (Carnival's popular craft mixology watering hole), popular Alchemy classics will also be served at the Amari Bar.

The food, entertainment and service is typical Carnival — yay for that! — plus you can look forward to exclusive new experiences inspired by Costa’s Italian heritage. Cove Balcony staterooms get you close to the waterline, and feature balconies that let you make the most of your location, for one amazing up-close view of the wake and sea foam as the ship cruises along. The Fitness Center is through the spa and takes up all the front of the ship on Deck 12, so there are lovely views. On the same deck, right at the other end of the ship, is an outdoor fitness space.
What I didn't love about Carnival Venezia
Most measure 275 square feet, not including 65-square-foot balconies, and have a single bedroom with a sofa and table across from the bed, plus a larger-than-normal bathroom. In addition, this Terazza Carnevale area of the ship has 27 Cabana cabins that have extended "cabana" balcony areas with lounge chairs and hammocks for lounging. This is a forward-location outdoor area with 2 whirlpools, 2 massage huts, cabanas, Fresh Creations (chopped salad station / complimentary, made-to-order fresh salads), exclusive sundeck for relaxation, sunbathing and evening dance parties. Carnival Seaside Theatre is a complimentary outdoor cinema with a huge LED screen. Like all Carnival ships, Carnival Venezia is a vessel aimed at travelers looking for an affordable, fun and lively cruise vacation. But it's one with an Italian twist — one so strong that you suspect there's a backstory, and indeed there is. Carnival Venezia was drydock refurbished at Navantia Shipyard (Cadiz) in the period between March 16th and May 28th. 11 rooms are dedicated to karaoke, and the masquerade ball is a colorful take on the famous Carnevale in Venice.
Elegant bars, stylish pubs and welcoming lounges are the ideal backdrop for cocktails, meeting up with friends for before or after-dinner drinks, socializing and relaxing. Seafood Shack (open for lunch and dinner /both with waiter service) is a casual restaurant with indoor/outdoor seating located near the Lido buffet (poolside). Seafood Shack's menu is a la carte priced (between $4-16 per item) and offers lobster (BLTs, rolls, steamed, fried), shrimp (salad, rolls, fried), crab cakes, clams, oysters. The Seafood Shack restaurant is unique for offering fresh fish purchased from local markets along the cruise itineraries.
The cabin service
On a more positive note, Carnival Venezia is one of the rare Carnival ships that doesn't have air vents carved into cabin doors — something that often makes cabins on Carnival ships less soundproof than cabins on competing lines. This is one area where inheriting a vessel from sister line Costa was an advantage. Cove balcony cabins are priced a little lower than standard balcony cabins because, in theory, their unusual balcony configurations and low-on-the-ship locations make them less desirable. But to me, the more-enclosed nature of the balcony isn't a major drawback, and the closer-to-the-waterline location of the cabins is a plus, not a minus.
Kids don't have to be potty-trained (parents provide diapers/toiletries). The reason for this is because this ship was originally built for China, where there is less interest in swimming and sunbathing and more focus on shops and restaurants. Hence the Lido Deck resembles more of an Italian square, surrounded by cafes and bars, rather than a typical cruise ship pool deck with acres of space for loungers. The pool is almost an afterthought, tucked into one end so loungers can only go round three sides (one side is shaded).
Two-three times per sailing, one of the ship's chefs goes to the port's local fish market and purchases fresh fish and seafood. At Seafood Shack you can check out the cruise itinerary's current selection. Unlike on the Vista class, though, there is no pool here — but Carnival will be adding two whirlpools.
Seven-night Canada and New England sailings from New York start at $509 per person. Note that these fares are based on double occupancy and don't include taxes, fees and port changes, which range from around $100 to $250 per person for most sailings. Two more bars on the same deck (yeah, that's five bars on a single deck!) include the cozy Piano Bar 88, which is part bar, part live piano music venue, and the Carnevale Bar and Lounge (mentioned in passing above).
